My journey to develop Ilford Delta 3200 Rolfilm 120 with Amaloco AM 74 developer using a Paterson Universal Film Developing Tank for one 120/220 film.
The film was shot at ISO 1600 and we want to develop it at ISO 3200. So push it one stop.
First read the Amaloco AM 74 Manual HANDLEIDING AM 74 (only available in Dutch)
Below the conclusion for development of this film.
Prepare the developer
Dilution
The default dilution is 1+7 (eg. 420 ml water + 60 ml. AM 74 = 480 ml). This can be used multiple times.
Do not use less then 20 ml concentrate per film/development.
Development times
Ilford Delta 3200 needs specific development times:
Exposed at ISO | Development time | Temp |
---|---|---|
1600/33° | 9.5 min | 20°C |
3200/36° | 10.5 min | 20°C |
6400/39° | 13 min | 20°C |
Develop the film
Pour the solution into the developing tank.
For Rolfilms the first 30 sec turn over the tank constantly. After that turn over the tank every 15 seconds once during the developer time.
This agitation improves uniform development and prevents the bromide effect.
As we shot the film at ISO 1600 our development time will be 9.5 min. Time to flow off the developer not included.
Stop the development
After the required development the film has to be stopped by Amaloco S 10 or S 50. Dilution 1+19 at 20°C
Empty the developer and pour the S 10 or S 50 into the developing tank.
Turn over the tank constantly for 30 seconds.
Fix the film
Empty the stop bath and pour fixeer X55 or X89 Extrafix into the developing tank.
Dilution 1+4 at 20 °C. Same agitation as developer.
Fixer time for Delta 3200 is 4 minutes. (for most other films 2 minutes)
Empty the Fixer and wash out with flowing water of 16-20 °C during 10-12 minutes.
Dry the film
To prevent drying markson the film fill the tank with water and add ± 5 ml Amaloco H 10 per liter. Rotate the film 20 seconds in this water. Then open the tank and pull out the reel. Remove the film from the reel and let it dry hanging.
