The bright yellow painting of the movable parts of the bridges in the Zaan region is the result of a fatal accident in 2015 and an accident in 2018. An elderly couple was seriously injured because they had not been noticed by the bridge controls when they were standing on the moving bridge section. The couple fell from a great height into the Zaan and onto the asphalt.

Until 2004, the ANWB took care of all signposting in the Netherlands.
For this designer Gerard Unger developed the letters on the ANWB signposts.
This changed when the realisation, management and maintenance came under the stricter European tendering rules. The ANWB was no longer allowed to simply take care of the realization for road authorities. As a result, road authorities had to tender themselves.
In the long run, this had consequences for the uniformity, continuity and coherence of the signage. To the dissatisfaction of all road authorities, the government and road users.
